I was dismissive when my counselor recommended this book. I ultimately purchased it intending to put it on the back burner for a rainy day, but then corona virus hit, and I had nothing but time. Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. As other reviewers have mentioned, seemingly every page - every paragraph - contains something relatable. It was not an easy experience reading this book; it was painful. But I came out the other end stronger. Despite the pain, I have no regrets; I'm glad I read it. I strongly recommend this book to anyone who experienced sexual abuse, especially men - like me - who don't believe it 'affected them as badly as they think'. Every odd behavior you exhibit but are uncertain the root cause will be explained in this book... every single one. Thank you Mike Lew, and good luck to men just starting the journey to recovery... I bought this book because I am married to a survivor and he told me that I could not understand what he is going through as a male whose first sexual experience was being abused by another male. He's right of course. Since he is not ready to share more with me about what he is going through, I purchased this book to gain a grain of incite into his experience and his coping mechanisms that helped him reach adulthood. I did not follow the author's advice and read this book slowly. I zoomed through so I could move onto the next book to help me understand how I could be there for him during this process. While there is a lot of hope offered but the author that healing is possible, I feel more fear than hope for our future. Hopefully, I can stand the test and brave this journey with my beloved. I'm so angry that this happened to him and that he had to bare this alone for so long. I hope he has a good therapist to help him on his way so that he can once again thrive.
